Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about FundingShield's platform, integration, and coverage. Can't find your answer? Talk to us.

  • What is FundingShield?

FundingShield is a fintech company managing mortgage risk, compliance & fraud through an embedded verification and remediation infrastructure layer. Our platform validates wire accounts, closing agents, insurance coverage, licensing, and settlement data in real time, before funds are disbursed, protecting mortgage lenders, warehouse lenders, title insurance underwriters, closing agencies, and institutional investors from wire fraud, title fraud, and settlement risk.

  • What sets FundingShield apart from other fraud prevention tools?

Most tools react to fraud after it happens. FundingShield operates before funds move: we verify counterparties, accounts, and documents against live source data pulled directly from financial institutions and title underwriters, not stale aggregated feeds. Our platform functions as an embedded infrastructure layer inside your existing closing workflow, delivering real-time decisions instead of yesterday’s reports.

  • What services does FundingShield offer?

Our platform includes four core products plus an institutional services group:

    • WAVS – real-time verification of wire accounts and instructions
    • The Guardian Service – continuous monitoring of closing agents and settlement parties
    • Service Provider Compliance (SPC) – license, insurance, and standing checks across your provider network
    • Title Knight – title workflow verification and remediation
    • PaymentShield – payment verification for consumer-facing workflows
    • Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG) – institutional diligence for portfolio, securitization, and warehouse transactions
  • What is WAVS (Wire Account Verification Service)?

WAVS validates wire instructions against verified account records from the receiving financial institution. Before a wire is sent, our system confirms that the account name, number, and routing information match the actual account of record. This stops business email compromise, altered wire instructions, and impostor accounts, the fraud vectors responsible for over $275M in reported real estate losses per the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

  • What is The Guardian Service?

The Guardian Service is our real-time monitoring system for closing agents. It continuously validates the settlement party you’re working with: license status, E&O and fidelity insurance, wire accounts, CPL, and standing against known-fraud watchlists. Instead of relying on a static approved-agent list that goes stale, Guardian gives you a live risk signal on every transaction.

  • What is the Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG)?

PSG delivers institutional-grade verification, remediation, and execution support across portfolio acquisitions, securitizations, servicing transfers, and warehouse funding. PSG operates as an embedded cybersecurity and infrastructure layer so capital moves with certainty, not blind trust, critical when acquisition or portfolio timelines compress and hidden risks surface faster than traditional controls can catch them.

  • Who benefits from FundingShield’s services?

FundingShield protects every party involved in mortgage transactions:

    • Mortgage lenders – reduce funding-stage risk and exceptions
    • Warehouse lenders – verify counterparties and monitor advance risk
    • Title insurance underwriters – validate agents in their networks
    • Closing agencies – demonstrate operational rigor to lender partners
    • Institutional investors and asset managers – de-risk portfolio, securitization, and financing transactions
  • Do you support Non-QM, DSCR, RTL, and private credit workflows?

Yes. FundingShield actively supports private credit lenders, DSCR shops, RTL originators, and Non-QM investors. Our verification stack works the same way regardless of the loan product, the underlying risk (wire fraud, settlement risk, title defects, counterparty exposure) is the same across product types. We’re a regular presence at NPLA, IMN Non-QM, and Geraci ACTIVATE events.

  • Why is real-time verification important today?

Mortgage transactions are becoming faster, more digital, and more interconnected, and fraud tactics are evolving alongside them. Traditional post-closing reviews find problems too late. Compressed acquisition timelines and AI-driven attack vectors make it critical to verify counterparties, accounts, and documents before funds are disbursed, not after. Real-time verification against live source systems is now the operational baseline for responsible lending.

  • What risks does FundingShield reduce?

FundingShield addresses the risk vectors that quietly drain lender balance sheets:

    • Wire fraud and business email compromise
    • Impostor and unauthorized settlement parties
    • Title defects and lien exceptions
    • Documentation and compliance gaps
    • Counterparty exposure across the transaction chain
    • Investor and warehouse delivery exceptions

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center reports over $275M in annual real estate fraud losses. FundingShield’s own Q1 2026 Fraud Analytics identified risk findings in 43.72% of analyzed transactions.

  • What scale does FundingShield operate at?

FundingShield is trusted to protect over $5 trillion in closings. Across the network, our platform has flagged $955 billion in transactions for risk and halted $51 billion before funds moved.

  • What ROI do clients typically report?

Clients consistently report up to 8x return on FundingShield spend, with documented figures ranging from 1.5x to 8x. Returns come from three levers: avoided fraud losses, faster remediation of exceptions before they become defects or repurchase demands, and reduced operational cost through automation.

  • Where has FundingShield been featured?

FundingShield and its Fraud Analytics reports are regularly covered in Bloomberg, National Mortgage News, HousingWire, and The New York Times. Our leadership speaks at major industry events including the MBA Chairman’s Conference, IMN Non-QM, NPLA, Geraci ACTIVATE, and the NMN AI Virtual Summit.
